GIVE SCOTLAND A CHANCE! Guest Post on Independence by Winston Smith

I’m not a football fan and I generally wish you would all concentrate on more important issues. But, I have to say, there is a sense that Celtic’s victory last night was one of those special historic moments. It’s a great result for Scotland too and goes beyond football.

Little wonder then that Rangers fans are hurting today. They hurt because they have separated themselves from Scotland. Rangers fans revel in Scotland’s failures nowadays, not our successes. Just recently on a Rangers forum, for example, I was shocked to read that a majority of them wished England success in a football game against Scotland.

Celtic fans need to understand that there is a growing rejection of what Rangers stood for, all across Scotland. Proof of that is there for all to see, in the groundswell of opposition to Rangers being crowbarred into the SPL last year, in voting trends, in football forums up and down the country, on the streets and in coffee shops — almost everywhere.

Outside of Kinning Park, the Union Jack is considered offensive just about everywhere in Scotland. Scottish people generally want nothing to do with Northern Ireland’s problems, except where we might help fairly resolve them, and we aspire to be tolerant of varying faiths, religions, and cultures.

We need Celtic and Celtic fans to play their part in the forthcoming referendum and vote favourably for independence. It just makes sense. Celtic could be the true champions of Scotland in that competition, and Scotland could make real progress towards building a new, better, country, making us all winners.

If you can imagine a Scotland that invested in its economy and created dignified jobs for people, if you can imagine a Scotland that didn’t take part in these evil foreign wars but vehemently opposed them, imagine a culture of hope and optimism instead of one that reduced people to bitterness and poverty (in a Scotland that didn’t dump half of its population on the scrap-heap), if you can imagine all that, you can have it. It’s that simple.

So, I am asking all Celtic fans to put all their historic grievances to one side. You can always go back to them, if you want to. Get behind the Yes campaign and you could do more to undermine those representatives of Unionism and their vile agenda than you ever will on a football field. That and more.

  1. The world according to Nick Clegg

    Chemical weapons – obscenely indiscriminate.

Cluster bombs (multi-coloured bomblets with a very high fail rate – typically set off when picked up by children)- OK

Depleted Uranium shells (which leave a residue of radioactive particles which are typically ingested by children every time the wind blows)- OK

Sally Magnusson was at best unprofessional with her ” Ha Ha Celtic ” mocking remark during her broadcast on Thursday.
This is a public funded organization & I won’t allow Celtic’s achievements to be belittled without a reaction.
If anybody else was offended by her remarks I have contact details at BBC complaints:

The info was all there to educate you on the true nature of Craig Whyte, but you were too busy being clever sneering little Cam to pay any attention even when RTC and others pointed it out to you.

What is it with you Rangers guys that you can’t accept a little constructive criticism from a friendly rival. You could have saved yourselves so much heartache if you had only listened.

But it’s – “F**king fenians trying to be smart” and a tirade of foul mouthed invective every time.

Sad but we still wish you well in the Third Division.

            What a total rocket!

              I repeat

We have anti- British Irish republicans in Scotland objecting to Scotland leaving the union, how does that work ?

  8. Monti

I feel Sally Magnusson could have said something positive about Celtic’s achievement, such as well done to Celtic last night or great achievment for Scottish football…..but ” haha Celtic “?? I don’t think so guys & I’m pretty sure our manager & players would fail to see ” haha Celtic” as positive reporting!

  9. dan

Gort, the guy is a pathetic creep. You just know that he was late off the breast. In fact I’ll bet if you looked closely you’d see two faint vertical lines on his forehead from where his poor mummy had to suckle him through the school railings. And like most people who’ve had to be dragged kicking and screaming away from the mammary, he’s grown up feeling rejected and insignificant, so a blog like this is a Godsend to him. He can sit and bash away at his keyboard all day long—-which going by the number of his posts, is precisely what he does. I wonder if he’s married? If he is I’ll bet the missus is feeling, well, neglected, if you get my drift.

The stuff he posts is utterly dishonest as well as being pure shite. He tries to give the impression of being a ‘progressive type’ for whom bigotry is a source of mirth. But now and then, that old masks slips to show malefactor beneath.

For example, I posted a heartfelt message to Violet Carson. I told her to ‘fuck off.’ Some geezer called David suggested I had been a bit rude. Cue the creep to piggy back on David’s comment, to the effect that ‘they’ had no class, that it had to do with ‘their’ upbringing, and that as ‘one of their own’ (dear Oscar Wilde) put it,’ profanity is the refuge of the semi-literate.’

Now, had our resident wretch referred to ‘him’ ‘he’ and ‘his’ I would have let it slide. But what could he possibly mean when he wrote of ‘they’, ‘them’ and ‘their.’ He could only be referring to a race (the Irish, since dear Oscar hailed from those parts) or a denomination (Catholic, since he assumed dear Oscar to be a Tim) or a sexual grouping (since dear Oscar was gay.)

You can take your pick. Whatever the meaning, it clearly exposes the creep for the cowardly little bigot that he is.

Hate me, by all means, cowardly one. I couldn’t give a fuck. In fact I wear enmity from sad fucks like you as a badge of pride But as the formidable Steerpike has cautioned (albeit under another handle) ‘never hate in plurals.’

    • cam

🙂 got you biting wee man,,,i can feel your rage.
Bet you’ve been stewing away all day thinking up your wee rant 🙂
      luuurvving it ya wee daftie.

    • cam

C’mon Danny bhoy,,vent your wee man rage, let it all go sonny 🙂

    • @gortchomhor

Dan, no offence — seriously. I mean it, I’m not trying to offend you here. I honestly don’t know what side of the great divide you are on. Usually I can work it out but I don’t have the energy to figure it out right now.

I’ll clarify where i stand though and maybe you and others can take it from there. My allegiance is to the truth and a childish notion of justice that has infected my soul like an exotic disease for about 40 years.

I’m really not into being on a side, as such.

I tend to pick on Rangers fans, but that’s genuinely because I think they are generally more disappointing. Maybe I have a “comfort the afflicted, afflict the comfortable” thing going on… I don’t know. I just think the values of Rangers fans, what they stand for, their prejudices, etc, are abhorrent.

I’m pretty impartial and open to ideas so feel free to explain to me (as I am sure many would) that Celtic fans are no better. I’m ready for that discussion, as much as I would find it boring. Just don’t expect an easy ride, I’ve given the matter a lot of thought.

Anyway, the good news is I think most people are fundamentally alright and decent. Where they screw things up and act like morons, I put it down to environmental factors like upbringing, the media, the system & greed (same thing), and a pile of other crap that is counter-productive.

As for Cam, I admire his energy and I think this place is better with people like him here. On a certain level, his being here proves how tolerant we are. That’s actually quite funny when you think about it, although it is true.

      • Steerpike

” My allegiance is to the truth and a childish notion of justice ”

” I don’t KNOW, I just think the values of Rangers fans, what they stand for, their prejudices, etc, are abhorrent. ”
        —————————————————————————————-

        Dear gort,

Truth is based on what we KNOW, and it is unjust to attribute values and prejudices to ” Rangers fans ” one does not KNOW.

I am interested in the truth too, that is why I do not want bronze age voodoo taught to kids under the guise of truth.

        • @gortchomhor

And, by the same token, the truth is you don’t know what I know about Rangers fans.

As for the voodoo / child welfare argument you are obsessed with, don’t you think there are more important things to worry about? it’s not like kids are being pysically tortured and, no matter what values promote, you are always going to be accused of indoctrination or something

Even science is full of values and fictional nonsense. In about 500 years, all the science we have right now will be regarded as voodoo junk.

          • Steerpike

            @gort,

” And, by the same token, the truth is you don’t know what I know about Rangers fans.”
            ——————————————————————————————-

I know that you do not know all Rangers fans, and it is unjust to attribute abhorrent values to all you do not know, back to hating in plurals.

” don’t you think there are more important things to worry about? ”
            ———————————————————————————-

Who said this ? ” My allegiance is to the truth …”.

Science welcomes refinement, but in 500 years snakes and burning bushes will still not talk, nor will the universal laws that govern us vanish into thin air, science works now and it will work in 500 years. The modern scientific method and its results cannot be compared to primitive guesswork.

            • @gortchomhor

“I know that you do not know all Rangers fans, and it is unjust to attribute abhorrent values to all you do not know, back to hating in plurals.”
              ——————————————————————————-
I apologise. Very sorry. I assumed you had an argument with a degree of sophistication rather than just this childish point.

I don’t claim to know them all, of course, as well you know, and I don’t claim they are all reprehensible scum — just most of them. The ones who might be sensibe or decent enough to object to the songs about genocide and reveling in fenian blood, for example, don’t though; they seem to sit quite comfortably amongst them.

Tell you what, Steer, for every Rangers fan you can show me who objects to all the supremacist protestant stuff, red hands of ulster, anti-catholic sentiments and songs, etc., in a verifiable way, I will donate £1 to Children in Need (I know how much you care about children so there’s an incentive).

This just shows that you know absolutely nothing about the history of science. Look into how they welcomed your great idol Darwin… or his cousin 😉

Sadly its the fate of some people, no matter how well intentioned, to be misunderstood.

Still look on the bright side. Celtic have qualified and little bigot Cam is spitting nails. Walter’s wallet is bulging and he has put himself nicely onside (ever the cunning strategist our Walt) for another little bonus by licking McColl’s arse and the ineffable Ally is breaking all records for lower division pay deals as well as for eating pies.

” Ha Ha Celtic” in a clear mock gesture remark is NOT what I & I’m sure many Celtic fans regard as positive reporting on a great result for Celtic & SCOTTISH FOOTBALL!
If others think that remark is fine, well……

  12. The same with the ridiculous remark on here about the signing of biton and islamic flags, forgot about kayal did he,does he surmise now that celts are islam and sevco judaism? funny I have always known celtic to be all inclusive, or am I being petty.

    @gort,

” This just shows that you know absolutely nothing about the history of science. Look into how they welcomed your great idol Darwin… or his cousin 😉 ”
    ——————————————————————————————–
Your understanding of English amazes me, did I say ” science has always welcomed refinement ” ?
I know everything about the history of science, and science welcomes refinement, try not and quote evidence from the past as evidence of the present, it lacks logic never mind sophistication.

So the truth is now a childish point to be made ? My, you do swing with the proverbial breeze, not much rational thinking going on in the old computer methinks. Let us see it it gets any better:

” I don’t claim to know them all, of course, as well you know, and I don’t claim they are all reprehensible scum — just most of them. ”

Hmmm, so now you are claiming to KNOW most Rangers fans and they are reprehensible scum ??

” The ones who might be sensible or decent enough to object to the songs about genocide and reveling in fenian blood, for example, don’t though; they seem to sit quite comfortably amongst them.”

Hmmm, now you KNOW decent fans are comfortable with the songs !!

You do KNOW a lot about people you have no knowledge of, and I do not need to verify the innocence of most fans, you must verify their guilt, and you cannot, you just make shit up.

Look, I don’t know if you have thinking problems but here it is in its simplest form, there are bad people in all walks of life, there are bad people in amongst the Rangers and Celtic support. Each person must be judged as an individual, each individual must be judged on the evidence and those that judge individuals without evidence are called reprehensible scum.

Have you never heard of innocent until proven guilty, you deem most Rangers fans are guilty because they identify themselves as Rangers fans.

You are another one who thinks funny, and I do not mean Sally Magnusson funny.

    • Steerpike

      Truth and justice……………….lmao…….gort…..you are funny.

    • @gortchomhor

If I was to dwell on the petty like you, I would quote you like this ” there are bad people in all walks of life” and ask if you know bad people in all walks of life? Every single walk of life? Zzzzzzzzz.

Honestly, Steer, your arguments are so weak at times. I get no pleasure from pointing this out as I would prefer you said something challenging.
